It's not a matter of "thinking less" of your family and friends if they have children out of wedlock.

M referred to the stigma of being illegitimate, not the stigma of producing kids outside of marriage. My question to her was about that.

The simple truth is that having children out of wedlock is one of the stupidist things a woman can do. One of the surest paths to poverty for her and her children.

I disapprove of any production of children by people who are ill equipped to achieve a good outcome. Lack of marriage may correlate with bad outcomes but it isn't causal.
