Some snips from Modoff’s latest report.

This should help spur the WCDMA uptake (don’t believe I've seen this reported before)

Snips>>>>>>

Vodafone UK gives away 3G phones

In a positive sign for 3G trends and earnings at QCOM, Vodafone UK has
joined its sibling in Germany in offering heavily discounted WCDMA
handsets

VOD UK Website - Free WCDMA handsets (with service contracts)

MOT E1000
MOT V980
Samsung Z107V
Sharp 902
NOK 6280?
Samsung E810

Further, as Qualcomm would likely point out, the notion of a CDMA world versus a
GSM world is rapidly becoming blurred. WCDMA is after all a CDMA technology, on
which Qualcomm collects a royalty. Given the industry trends discussed above, we
consider WCDMA looks set to exceed expectations in 2005
. This will benefit the
few companies who are currently able to supply commercial WCDMA basebands
such as Ericsson Mobile Platforms and QCOM.

Finally, we are also anticipating an improvement in QCOM’s fundamentals from the
launch of EV-DO service in the US. The first EV-DO handset, from HiTech Corp,
launched in 4Q04 at Verizon now boasts several dozen cities with EV-DO coverage.
We also anticipate EV-DO handsets from LG and Samsung appearing there in 1H05.
Despite the distractions of a potential merger with Nextel, Sprint should follow suit
some time later in the year. These new devices should boost ASPs in Qualcomm’s
ASIC business,
and eventually fuel an upgrade cycle as new 3G services are made
available to consumers.
