Who's begging? The US (and every other country and organization) that have helped in this crisis SHOULD get credit where credit is due. Also, there's no escaping the political overtones in any humanitarian effort. Witness the UN trying to position itself with "coordinating" and "directing" without actually doing anything concrete to help. The Soviet Union used to stencil the hammer and sickle on bags of grain sent by the US to starving peoples. Unfortunately, there are many politicians and media folk who hate the idea of the US's image being burnished by its efforts, and are doing their best to denigrate it. Why should we let them get away with it?
