Ukrainian Loser Appeals to Supreme Court

Losing Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych has appeal to to the Supreme Court to annul the result.

Court spokeswoman Lianna Shlyaposhnikova said judges in Kiev would begin considering the appeal on Thursday.

Kremlin favourite Yanukovych had vowed to challenge the results of the Boxing Day court-ordered presidential revote, which gave his opponent, opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko, a a solid victory.

Yanukovych filed volumes of complaints with the Central Election Commission, alleging mass fraud, but the commission threw out his appeal last week.

International observers have said that they saw no evidence of mass vote-rigging that had marred the earlier round of voting on in which Yanukovych had claimed victory.
