The "free market" is usually only talked about when yet some other scheme is used for extracting wealth from a developing nation.

All due respect, total bullshit!

Countries benefit enormously from free trade, both countries, otherwise they wouldn't engage in it. The poorest countries on the planet are those who through geographic or political isolation have had their trade with other countries restricted. Looking at the flow of funds between the US and China one could go around in circles to determine who is "extracting wealth" from whom. Both get richer from the deal or they don't engage in it. Find a decent book on basic economics (and not the socialist ones they hand out in the UK) and look up the terms "absolute advantage" and "competitive advantage" and discover how this is so.
