Exactly, Saddam was a criminal, or would have been so defined under any reasonable international law [if there was in fact such a thing] ... so was Bush of course, for playing the part of Rival Gang From Across Town and rolling his tanks over Saddam's turf .... he should have taken the case to the authorities, 'laid an information' as we say here, but wait, there are no authorities ... and therein lies the problem
It can still be described as unilateral though, GST, when a cop pulls you over for speeding, whether you're guilty or not, whether the stupid 30km/hr zone is reasonable or not, it doesn't matter, the cop is acting to enforce his interpretation of the state's legislation, and the cop and nation combined form one side, the alleged speeder another .... so it's problematic, the terms uni- and multilateral, in some of the senses i see them above ..... need another term, imho, something that would describe a biker gang pulling you over, in place of the cop [which would on their part still be unilateral, though there might be three dozens of them] .... cheers |
