Yeah, it's a different world here where I staunchly insist on centralized processing and have to deal with the fact that some things that might be practically nil cost can become very expensive because the cost can be multiplied by a million times per day.

This is so much in my awareness in everything I do, that I try to save every byte I can. To such an extent that the CSS classes for displaying even and odd rows in tables are named "ter" and "tor" for TableEvenRow and TableOddRow. And if you ever do a View Source here, you'll see I won't even waste 4 bytes on a "<br>" if I don't have to.

The payback is that less horsepower can deal with more users (although we do make bunches of horsepower available) and even dialup users (which I am when I'm home) have a speedy experience.

Last I looked, Alexa ranked us as "Fast" and in the 30th percentile in terms of page-load speed. Which is quite the feat when you consider that our pages are dynamic.

Or for those not as familiar with that terminology, rather than just sending a page out to the user ("static"), our system has to first do a lot of work to make up that page since every page for every user will be different ("dynamic").
