Fair enough. Levy may not be a credible source. I didn't bother to research his background but rather looked at the proposition of the article. Maybe GWB isn't mad - even, as you say, probably, - but, he has done some pretty odd things that show he lacks compassion and gravitas. He has also seems to be anti-intellectual and a bit brutish. Understanding that reasonable people could have different priorities, I feel concern that we are lining up for some bizarre replay of old world politics. Hey, I'm seriously hoping I'm wrong.

We seem to listing WAY to one side of the spectrum, discarding previously long-held international relationships, disregarding world opinion and doing exactly what GWB the candidate said he'd never do: namely, nation building. If this is indeed about stopping dictators and not about the oil (I'm highly skeptical of that), then there are OTHER dictators that are worse. If it is about WMDs, which I seriously doubt as well, then there are other purveyors and holders of WMDs that have far more credibility as agents of world instability. Israel is on my list of nuclear powers that represent a threat to world peace. And as I said in other posts, I consider North Korea a big risk. Liberals used to be called "tax and spend". Not taxing and spending is far worse and NO social program in history has been spending the equivalent of 1 US Steel Corp every two weeks on an ill conceived war effort while simultaneously dismantling the DOD with budget cuts.

In 3D I'm not as radical as I am in SI. But I look around and see everyone piling over to the starboard side. Somebody better stay on the port side, preferably as far port as possible. And because there are so many or the starboard deck, those on the port better start provoking a return to center. But to stop a stampede, I don't know if calm and assuring voices are enough. I'd feel better having a bandolier full of tranquilizer darts, crowd horn and a cattle prod. The big foam finger may not be enough. IMHO.
