a lot of people i know in their 20's and 30's assume that they will not collect social security, or at least not anything like their parent's generation (and older) is expecting and experiencing. Of course, they are funding the present collectors. One major problem with the whole SS system is the increased longevity of Americans, thanks to advances in medical care and drugs.
I am not aware that these people in their 20s and 30s are putting away anywhere near the money they should given their lack of SS expectations.
This issue may become the issue that could lead to cataclysmatic changes in our economic system, and not for the good. larry
