Physical phenomena, or as solon puts it events in motion, effect our sense of what is physical experience. We can’t really talk about time in the physical sense because it is a construct of our minds; one that we are only able to apply inferentially and abstractly as we attempt to expand our awareness of physical phenomena backwards and forwards.

Instead of attempting to determine how infinitesimally small the measurable aspects of time could be, we simply resort to terms like ‘moment’ or ‘instance’, not that scientific but practically useful.

So, from one instance to the next the state of the entire universe at the particle level has changed. With each moment we have a different universe than we had in the instance before. Understanding the universe then becomes an exercise in expanding our awareness to perceive momentary states of what is but is for only that snapshot of an instance.
