Indeed, the same could be said of Vietnam. That just means that opposition to that war was exaggerated, too, not so much in extent as in intensity. As for "public opinion", Tony Blair is still Prime Minister, despite British opposition to the war in Iraq, which says to me that British opinion on the matter was not strong enough to topple the government. Similarly, no government has been pushed to do more to oppose the United States by its populace, not even in the Middle East, where denunciations have been muted, and no one came to the aid of Iraq, at least openly.
