Gold futures (unlike copper which is in backwardization) have a contango built into them, futuresource.com which means you are effectively paying a little interest to hold them. Plus I have enough speculation in gold through my juniors, which I consider call options without the time decay. GLD will be my ultra safe money, because I truly am concerned about the future of the USD as money and currency, although I may trade it.
