I certainly never said any of this was secret. GWB et al. (and many of his supporters) are making statements like "it certainly isn't about the oil". In Directive 114 Reagan (and most of the current GWB foreign policy crew, it would seem, by implication) say precisely that IS the reason we have an Iraq policy in the first place (link: www2.gwu.edu , 3rd paragraph). One would have to have a partial lobotomy to believe that Cheney and Rumsfeld don't believe it is about the oil NOW!
It becomes disingenuous to say, in effect, "It was about WMDs" when we knowingly gave precursors for WMDs and other materiel to the SAME GUY. This is just crazy making! It's like a cop planting a gun on an informant, shooting them and saying, "but they had a weapon and isn't the world a better place".
BTW, what happened to America on 9/11 had nothing to do with Saddam, and everything to do with bin Laden. GWB was saying, according to the White House itself, on March 13, 2002, "I truly am not that concerned about him." All defense arguments of the form "Is the world a better place without Saddam Hussein?" are using a bait and switch technique, familiar to anyone with even a modicum of debate skill.
Are all these people just playing mind games? That seems to be a cardinal waste of time and truly leaves this whole issue in the hands of people who are lying about their motives, had an agenda to pursue that wasn't honestly disclosed, based upon data which was known to be inaccurate (Uranium out of Africa, 45 minutes till doom) but included anyway. They now have mired the rest of us in a war with a country without any real plan for exit based upon patently wrong and fanciful images of us being liberators (link:http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/bush/cheneymeetthepress.htm, Cheney to Tim Russert). Not only have we burned through any sympathy we had (considerable that it was) for 9/11, but we have now created a factory for more terrorism.
Unless the U.S. begins a plan of genocide, which honestly could solve the whole terrorism problem ala the "final solution", then we better regroup and ask for some accountability and a real plan to live with a BILLION people who have a different religious and cultural orientation - starting with the top of the chain of command of our own government. |
