<"Isn't GSM/1x in business with China Unicom">

Unicom bought 500,000 handsets last August (Samsung, Motorola, LG). They cost about $500 to the user, targeting Unicom's business GSM subs, trying to retain them with 1x data capabilities in addition to the GSM coverage. Just this week they ordered some (60,000?) from a domestic vendor, in the form of a smartphone at over $1000. Seems more a State-run dispensation than evidence of demand.

Latest rumors are about dissolution of Unicom and redistribution of its underperforming GSM and CDMA assets (Hard to do with a partly public company)
