Saddam was an Arab Stalin - quite consciously - and nearly any amount of "demonization" (which in reality, is simply listing his actions instead of covering them up) is appropriate. He killed millions of Iraqis, both in his agressive wars and by execution, and drove millions more out of the country. Fascist tyrants like him find it much easier to survive in a state of war than of peace; so they make war.

Rummy will stay. He has taken on an immense task, the reshaping of the Pentagon for the 21st century, and will be given his shot to make his mark there. People who think that you fire commanders because they have made mistakes have never looked closely at the actual history of any real war. There never was a war without mistakes. Big ones. No plan survives contact with the enemy.
