When I was in school I had a girlfriend whose family had a horse ranch outside Ocala who had a Sheltie. Really neat dog, he would hear my car coming, meet me at the front gate and "herd" my car all the way back to the house. He didn't have any sheep to herd but he liked herding the 70+ horses (of which I was very afraid).

Another friend was a former police officer who adopted a K9 dog when he left the force. This was one of the ones from Germany that are huge and cost a fortune. He was very sociable but he had some rules he lived by, such as you don't get out of the car until a family member came outside and said it was okay to get out of the car. No matter how many times I visited he wouldn't let me out of the car until he got the word.
