First of all, there is really not much of a "Left" in America -- there is the moderate center which is where most Democrats are and there is the right which is where Bush is -- so I cannot say that the "Left" matters in numbers very much. But to the extent that there is a Left, the Left is concerned with human rights broadly speaking and has been worried about the punishing burden of sanctions on the Iraqi people. The logic behind sanctions was that Saddam had not disarmed -- although we now know that Saddam was disarmed. The Left would then favor lifting sanction which in turn would have lifted the pain and suffering off the backs of ordinary Iraqis. The Left would also have supported UN-led action if the UN had been pursued to continue with inspections. The Left would not have approved a move to bail out Israel with respect to Iraq.
