Natives in Formosa are Fujienese and have relatives in Fujien. I am not historian, but I vaguely remember reading one historical case when when mainland Fujienese went across the strait and drove off the invaders.

I cannot believe all these moot points being discussed of China and Taiwan. In 20 to 25 years, Taiwan Formosa will be absorbed. If not, by mid century, Taiwan will beg and pray to be absorbed.

US has a large Naval base in Okinawa and smaller one in Singapore. US should have a Naval base in China and protect China from future Nippon imperialism. China will be too busy developing its economy and making world's billionaires in the next five decades.

It should have been a strong China-US alliance starting in 1940's, if only US listened to General Stillwell and if there wasn't such feverish McCarthyism in US.

Neverheless, epic sociological transformations took place in both China and US during the 1960's to 1990's. Women liberation and repressive traditions were washed out in China. And civil rights in the US. Both were epic events for humanity.
