The primary reason, which I did not realize myself until last year, was that the proceedings were kept secret.

In this case, we are talking about the 2nd amendment, and I believe they were debated. I believe the militia sentence was there to justify the keeping of arms. IMO, all of the weaseling has been done by politicians and judges that want to restrict the right.

IMO, it is also obvious that the amendment is to allow personal weapons, such as pistols and rifles. If the government wants to restrict the rest, It's fine with me.
