SS more or less a guarantee of keeping people's heads above water by having everyone contribute 7.65% of their earnings (plus 7.65% on the employer side). The employee is left to do what he wishes with the other 50-90% of his income that he gets to keep -- that part is for investing, to "live very well." It's a smart system. -Z
