Cooter’s (anyone)- Now that the “log-jam” is finally broken and we have EV-DO handsets in the U.S., can the two-year gap eventually be closed somewhat allowing us to get the new technology on a more current basis?

At a minimum, the major carriers at least are "talking the talk" about getting to new technology quickly, we'll see how well that translates into action. You know I use video calls as a benchmark, in that area I am thoroughly disappointed. It is a feature in Japan and Europe, yet we have the following here:

Sprint - Years away, and according to Oliver, not particularly interested anyway.

Cingular/AWS - Didn't even bother to enable in the 6 WCDMA networks AWS has up and running<ng>

VZW - Haven't heard anything.

I fear we'll be doing wired video calls using VoIP long before we have them wirelessly.
