Laz, thread, one reason for this glut of physicians in the US of A is that until recent years ago, entry for the average Joe or Jill to US medical schools was difficult to impossible, part of the reason being to prevent oversaturation of the physician market and thereby protect established physicians' astronomical (at that time) incomes. Trouble is, they forgot to close the borders. The poor, the tired, the huddled masses of well-educated MDs from all over the world poured onto our shores. Meanwhile, Average Joe and Jill, denied admission to US medical schools, took flight to other shores to obtain their medical educations and then returned to the US to hang out their shingles. - Holly
