The point is this is no Afghanistan. You have middle class people with an infrastructure in place and a ready source of wealth, and in fact, one with reasonable self defense capability. There is no reason for us to occupy this place for an extended period of time -- just long enough to get them on the way to developing a new government.

I think the time when American military occupies foriegn countries for decades upon decades may be coming to an end. I would not be surprised to see a drawdown in Europe and in South Korea once these incidents are behind us.
