Everything always has to be so complicated haqihana.

People have as much right to read their interpretation into the Second Amendment as anyone. Just as they have the right to believe eating meat is evil.

The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed, is the salient point. Gun owners rely on and believe that with all their being. I think it is this part: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, where the confusion lies.

The Constitution on whole is so powerful that any attempt to translate the meaning of the second section of the Second Amendment as something outside of what those words actually mean causes great laughter among gun owners. If the meaning was so altered as to entirely redesign the English language, it would also cause an uprising the likes of which has not been seen in this nation since the Civil War .

Wikepedia has some great information regarding Militias and the Second Amendment for those of us that wish to explore the issue further.
