Zarqawi is an Al Qaeda affiliate in Iraq and OBL has declared him his deputy. However, that's disingenuous, because Al Qaeda was not in Iraq until after we invaded. So I'll answer the deeper question. The neocons decided to go to Iraq because they wanted to choose the battlefield. OBL had chosen America's home as the battlefield, but we switched the battlefield successfully to Iraq, so that we could face them with our trained soldiers instead of our civilians.

Is it working? I don't think so, due in large part to the sloppy execution of what little of a plan there was for post Iraq by Rumsfeld and Bush.

So the next plan needs to be to get this election over with and define a rapid exit strategy, but keep our bombers in position to turn this into an air war, while we bring our troops home.

Then we need to take the money we save by bringing our troops home and spend it on any plan that will help us boycott all oil purchases from the Middle East.
