Dan, Check out the diabetes board. Rezulin is currently being used off label and patients are not shy about telling others how well they are doing or telling their Dr. So far Rezulin is only approved for type II patients on insulin. Check out the board (misc.health.diabetes). I think you will be surprised (and not too many of the posters are named Henry :-)). You can also check out the diabetes archive at:

As far as the diabetes trials are concerned, the more approved uses the better, and large trials are expensive, especially prevention trials (and LGND has 2nd & 3rd generation compounds already identified and in the literature).
