[went cold turkey Jan-2-2000 (from 1.5 packs per day) after 20 years and don't regret it....]

AD,

Jan-2-2000 .. something about that period huh? <g> I was smoking heavily during the bubble years too. Not much else to do when you're staring at monitors all day long. Good time for this topic or discussion for me.

Have you run across anything to try and repair or address the damage from a prolonged period of smoking (pharmas or anything)?

I've been checking out the National Cancer Institute site lately and sort of starting to get concerned that I have to really quit smoking (anything -s-) once and for all (and I don't dig drinking all that much so I don't have a good substitute -ng). I'm a bit afraid to go get checked and see what my lungs look like today. {As a teen I spent a year or so stripping asbestos in some refineries which also has me concerned. They play those damn mesothelioma commercials all the time on tv in the wee hours.

Do you do anything special or is there nothing available to try and reduce the likelihood of eventually getting cancer? [Sort of the damage is done and it's not repairable.]
