I think whatever happens militarily in Syria will not be on a grand scale. Punitive, yes, but not sufficiently so as to provoke anything large. Its military, while large, is not equipped to take on the US. It would be annihilated if it came into Iraq. Everything I see suggess a lack of preparation and general efficiency: globalsecurity.org globalsecurity.org I think the US response will be very focused, something that the Syrians won't be able to do much about.
