"We invaded Iraq where terrorism was not a major problem, and we killed a lot of innocent people, and now we have terrorism coming out of ears in Iraq. Killing people feeds terrorism and does not get at its roots."

You may want to take a look at the history of the region. Tribal conflicts, attempts at ethnic cleansing, fundamental religious wars are the norm not the exception.

The rise in terrorism resulted directly from the initiation of Al-Qaida type movements. These were underway and gaining in popularity at an astounding pace without any intervention from us.

I talked to a young Turk in 1998. He told me that when he was a child there were only a few dusty old men that would be seen coming and going from the mosques in Turkey. But by the time he was in his twenties they were packed to overflowing with radical young Turks.

There is a correlation with our military build up and intervention in foriegn affairs but IMO you are making a mistake in attributing cause and effect here.
