Just found this thread and I'll try to help if i can and if you need it.

fwiw I haven't used vb in about 6 years. never asp, but I do know how windows works under the hood (sdk, ddk, raw asm, etc)

I'm fairly proficient in SQL (mysql and oracle)

C/C++/python are things I know.

PHP i'm learning

perl i've used it, but never written anything.

For oracle we've found that sometimes you have to tell the engine you want a particular type of optimization (they call them hints) to speed up your queries.
