"That's difficult to say. How much unregistered pesticide or toxic contamination are you willing to consume to buy cheaper imported food or clothing?"

Pesticide pollution from agriculture and whatever toxic discharges might be associated with textile production would tend to have very localized effects, so I don't have to consume any to buy cheaper imported food or clothing. That's not the relevant question. The question is, how much extra would you be willing to pay for the knowledge that you are not contributing to marginal damage to a remote environment or to human health of residents in that environment?

To which I'll add an additional question or two. Assuming the information you cite is accurate, what do you propose we, as American consumers, do about it - stop buying chinese goods? What good would that do? And China - what do you propose they do? Stop growing? Restrict citizens' access to automobile ownership? Stop building power plants?

Got any answers or you all about complaints and not solutions?
