Ish, That engine block thing, reminds me of Fort Hood, TX. The platoon I was in, was responsible for the firing ranges for the whole battalion, to make them familiar with the weapons of that day, so we had to fire the M1 Garand rifle, M-1, and M-2 carbines, 45 cal grease gun, 45 cal pistol, 30 cal air cooled tripod mounted, 30 cal water cooled tripod mounted, BAR bipod mounted, 50 cal tripod mounted, 50 cal ring mounted, 150 recoiless rifle Jeep mounted, and the 3.5 rocket launcher.
When all of the rest of the battalion was through on the ranges, we would fire off as many rounds as we could get away with, and had a big bunch of 3.5 rockets. There were two old tanks being used as targets, so we fired rockets until we knocked the turrets off, went down to the tanks, and each of us kept a pair of one and a half, inch ball bearings from the turret mounts. We went around rolling them in our hands like Capt. Queeg. |
