Rock_nj > Is there even the remote possibility that the tsunami has a manmade origin like a nuclear detonation?
I am perfectly satisfied, considering the various forces man has at his disposal, that there wasn't even the remotest possibility that the recent Indian Ocean event could have been man-made. Sure, atomic bombs going off underwater can make tsunamis but (a) not on the scale we have seen and (b) not without detection. Indeed, smaller earthquakes have been been happening in the Sumatra/Nicobar/Lacadive region for weeks after the big one and that alone should allay anyone's concern that there was something sinister.
Furthermore, the event occurred in an area which is prone to earthquakes presumably because of its well recognized, unstable geological formation. Had a tsunami been found in a part of the world where large earthquakes and tsunamis were unknown, eg the eastern seaboard of the US, then I would say one has reason for suspicion, but not this time.
And, just in case anyone felt that the presence of the US carrier etc was justification for believing that, somehow, the US was involved in starting the earthquake, Indonesia is now taking steps to remove all foreign forces which came to help in the initial phases of the disaster.
