>>It is not about being happy it is about whether Apple is gaining marketshare in the computer arena. Do you have numbers on that? Did Apple comment about it?<<

Don -

Indirectly, they did comment on it. In the conference call, they refer several times to CPU unit growth being double what IDT predicted. I don't know if the IDT predictions were in regard to the whole industry or were Apple-specific. They also said that their figures indicate that in the past several months, more than 40% of the people who bought Macs in the retail stores were "new to Mac." I thought this included both first-time computer buyers and switchers, but in response to one analyst's question about sales to Windows users, they referred to that same number again. They said that this was data from surveys.

Interestingly, they also referred to an independent survey of college students, where the percentage who said that they were planning to buy a Mac within 12 months was up.

It's interesting that you say that all efforts to regain market share have failed. The problem may be that your view is a bit too short-term. I think this kind of a market share disadvantage would take quite a while to fix. I believe the company has the strongest mix of products it has ever had, and with the addition of the Mini, I predict that we will start to see some gains in overall market share. But the progress will be slow. Even 1% a year would be a lot to ask.
