carranza, Were you at South Fort, or North Fort? We stayed in North Fort, but went to South Fort to run the infiltration course, with the machine guns locked in at 30 inches above the ground, and explosives going off in shallow holes all around us. That was kind of fun, but if a guy hiccupped, he got a round in his ass.

I wasn't one of the guys you saw, because I mustered out in 63.

Usually, the ground around the pit was fairly soft dirt in front, and in the mound at the back to prevent ricochets being a problem for the target pullers.

I don't know which military school you went to, but I graduated from Texas A&M in 57. I was a fool, and didn't take the contract with the Army, because I wore glasses, and they wouldn't take anyone with specs into airborne. I have kicked my ass many times for that stupid decision. I joined the 36th Infantry Division National guard in the middle of my freshman year, even though I was still in the corps at that time. After graduation, I moved back home 39 miles South of College Station, and was transferred to the 49th Armored Division, and finished out my 6 year obligation. By that time, I was married and had two kids, so couldn't go any farther.
