On the protective bullish put strategies, keep in mind that the margin requirements apply to the difference between the strikes of the long and short puts. One will be protected against margin calls if the market tanks in the sense of having one's capital being depleted for the duration.

PS: Portland may not have sales tax, but the property taxes more than compensate. Yes, live in WA and shop in OR.
