steveallen,

I did look at MBIA once upon a time and decided it is too isolated a sector to follow.

A bonds investor, especially one who invests in those tax free munis, should be able to follow them much easier.

In the mean time, we have MDC reported blow out numbers.
biz.yahoo.com

A few observations:

The Dec qtr is always slower for homebuilding industry, so it is difficult to identify which portion of the orders decline is attributable to seasonality or industry slow down.

The rear view mirror is nothing but robust for this industry. Higher prices and higher sales logically should lead to higher margins. One may argue that the improved profit margins are actually too low, considering how much "free" windfall that regions such as Southern Cal gave them.

It appears that most analysts are either totally stupid or they simply do not believe this performance can last forever. Earnings estimates are so low that qtr after qtr, most builders have been able to shatter the numbers. We shall see if that is all in the price now. MDC is up 2 pre market as I type, I wonder if that will hold today?

Finally, MDC has been watching too many of those poker tournaments on TV. They are "all in" with record communities planned for very questionable markets going forward.

Now on to MTG ..... where is that release?
