That is part of the Bush solution and it is one of his few ideas that is not totally stupid. I don't know if it would work or not. No matter what we do, including nothing, somebody's ox is going to be gored. I just don't want any phony labeling. Value Added Tax my arse. What value is ever added to a product by a tax? <G>

The objections I see is that any extra sales tax would be a drag on commerce. That is the idea, to encourage saving. But I can envision a lot of retailers not being fully behind that idea. And, of course, it is regressive, like Social Security, as the poor spend a greater percentage of their paychecks than do the upper middle class.
