for shiaa and kurds this admittedly lousy situation actually may be an improvement over saddam. Think about it. They are free from minority sunni baath arab control. The neighborhood is a rough one but there is legit chance that kurds and shiaa will control their own destiny. Even in a worse case civil war scenario with US and iranian help, baathists and terrorists will not regain control of 14 provinces.
