We are force-feeding democracy to the Iraqis. It's a unique and revolutionary experiment. We'll see whether it works soon enough.

Nonetheless, it is worth observing that no rational human being would consciously choose tyranny and oppression over democracy and freedom, which is the stark choice the Iraqis face. It really does boil down to that, and it is a reason I remain cautiously optimistic that the mess in Iraq may eventually work out reasonably well.
