Intel has been mentioned by name in several analyst reports, and I believe also by Macronix, as aggressively lowering prices to increase market share. I didn't make it up.

Now I never claimed that their only motivation was to hurt AMD, or that that was an end in itself. It's long-term-motivated because preventing AMD from earning a profit on flash would eventually lead to them leaving the market. Lots of Intel gold at the end of that rainbow.

Ultimately, I think Intel's scheme will backfire. AMD will wind up selling its flash division to Samsung. Mirrorbit would be just the ticket for them to further dominate the flash market. Alas, AMD won't get much for it. Who else would want to buy Spansion?
