I fully understood the science of weather by my 20s, because I needed to for my private pilots licence. When I read 'Black Elk Speaks', I was interested in his description of thunder as some sort of aetherial laughter that gave him great pleasure and peace ... although you'd have to read his text to get that. I believe his perspective is quite truthful also.
