Hi Charles - See how Apple did it with new products and revenue growth : nixlog.com

SUNW has a lot of the parts to establish a product line that fits with Apple's strategy. We just need some of the SUNW gadgets at low price points that integrate with the rest of the total product offering.

I believe SUNW is well positioned. I am thinking of a client Internet web browser devise built along the lines of the SUN RAY but integrated into a home device like a HDTV cable box or Satellite receiver box w/ tivo functions.

SUNW needs to bring on board a marketing GURU that has experience with the end-user consumer and cable or satellite services. Even better would be a joint marketing program with a major cable vendor like COX or COMCAST.

A HDTV SUNRAY integrated multi-media box would leapfrog SUN into the home multimedia business with their client machines on the edge and the complete enterprise systems at the core. Especially their virtual storage capability could be interconnected through their (cable) media vendor to provide secure, safe storage for customers and other major vendors (banks, brokerage companies etc.).

IMO, they just have not put the pieces together like Apple to provide an end-user secure media product where each party pays a portion of the cost based on the value received. The end-user pays most of their fees through monthly fees, where the enterprise customer pays based on equipment and resources used (i.e. virtual storage). A brokerage company could buy all of their virtual storage needs for all of their clients and provide each end-user access to their data via the integrated cable/sunray client access machine. What about providing a biometric secure access function?

All the pieces are there and ready to integrate but SUNW has not as yet entered into those critical joint ventures with banks, brokerage and cable companies. They need a sales team now that can knit these pieces together in a compelling offering. They should focus on cost, security, expandability and ease of use. As a loss leader, provide the end user a MP3 SUN JAVA wireless gadget to play and download music through the cable Sun Ray integrated media box.

It's not an HP or Dell comparison but it's more a total package integration offering.

What do you think? Do you think Sun will get it?
