"Yet, while our fossil record of the dinosaurs themselves is vast, we never find clear, indisputable specimens of the in-betweens." It is not vast. Probably less than .000000001 of past living things ever left a trace and an even smaller fraction a fossil that contained meaningful hints and clues about what it was.
