Yes, I see we cross-posted on poor Colin Patterson.

My take is that this is a perfect example of a scientist trying to express heartfelt doubts to trusted colleagues, and then being intimidated into a retraction of sorts to placate his peers.

All in all I think it is a sad commentary on the pressures to conform in science.

No doubt your take is different.

(I'm off to the pressures of the 3-D world for the rest of the day)
