Hi Dale,
Re: Hate is a dead-end street for losers.
I see it slightly differently. What the evil forces of fascism have discovered over the decades is that hatred of "the other" is one of the most powerful motivating forces in human nature. To wax philosophic for a moment, I'd suggest that the human species is not many generations evolved from a time in history when tribal allegiance meant the difference between life and death for most individuals. Humans, except in groups, were one of the more vulnerable animals on the planet. Other animals had more ferocious teeth, claws or greater brute strength. What humans excelled in was cunning and running in packs.
So our brains got hard-wired to accept a pack mentality as a survival instinct. This is what the manipulators of the Right try to engage every day. They attempt to instill a level of fear among the public that is below the level of rationality and intellectual honesty. As some suggest, the opinion leaders of the Right try to appeal to a "reptilian" sensibility among their followers.
I believe that what we suffer from, more than anything else in this nation, is lousy leaders. Lousy leaders who foment fear and hatred in order to further their mendacious goal of enriching themselves by the imposition of murderous wars of conquest on the planet while at the same time acting as reverse Robin Hoods at home, stealing from the poor and giving to the already rich.
Instead of coronating an "evil one" like George Bush, we should be impeaching and imprisoning him for embracing so much that is is so anathema to the goals this great nation was founded upon. Bush's record is replete with activities and schemes that are completely at odds with our heritage, our ideals and the direction that this nation really needs to head in. |
