Just what I've been arguing. Bush's religious beliefs (and his expression thereof) are not relevant. Nor are Carter's nor Clinton's.

I disagree. Your beliefs are totally relevant to who you are.

That is the whole problem right now. We don't know who we are electing. If politicians can lie about their beliefs, or even hide their beliefs (which amounts to the same thing), then what you get is not what you may think you are getting.

I have to admit, I do not know what will happen if politicians have to be up front with what they actually believe. If that ever happens (politicians having to be up front with their true beliefs) things wouold be drastically different.

I don't think it would be worse than what we have now. It would have to be better. You would have to just get used to it. The dynamics of everything would of course change.

But, over time we have to get to that point.
