Abbas didn't order the bombing and you should know it. The bombing was intended to provide Israel with an excuse not to make a serious move towards peace. Israel,
Fatah did, and Abbas is supposed to be the head of Fatah. Instead of saying that he will take control of Fatah actions, Abbas is promising NOT to move against the terrorists.
So Fatah (with help from Hizbullah), explodes a truck bomb by the border wall, sends in half a dozen suicide attackers, kills a bunch of Israeli border guards in a battle that rages for hours and destroys the Karni border facility, and your idea is that everybody should accept that this had nothing to do with the PA, just ignore it? If it really had nothing to do with the PA, there is no PA and nobody worth talking to. But of course it had to do with the PA and its main organizatin, Fatah - who claimed the credit. It's not like they're hiding.
Letting Abbas disclaim responsibility for the actions of Fatah and Al Aqsa is like President Bush appointing John Kerry titular head of the USA so he can disclaim US responsibility for the Iraq War. That would be absurd of course, but in the case of the PA, Arafat trained everybody to accept the absurd.
And in some case (present company not excepted) Arafat even trained seemingly rational people to believe that he was a lover of peace who had nothing at all to do with the chaos and terrorism all around him, which he ordered. |
