So tell me, expatriate, when has it been good for the less informed, less talented, less democratic to lead an entire nation?

tejek, socialism is exactly the form of government that allows the less informed, less talented and less democratic to lead the nation. A great example is Social Security. It is forcing an inferior retirement plan on people who could do much better with their savings, if they were simply allowed.

Or much worse........you seem to ignore that the market is extremely fickled and that there is no guarantee that the stock markets will go up no matter how much you show me past average gains. Those gains are extremely misleading. Between 1960 and 1980, the markets did squat. Had those been your prime production years, you would have little to show for your efforts had you invested your SS in stocks. There is a reason why traders call the stock markets the biggest casino in the world.

Socialism doesn't work as efficiently or effectively as market economics, and the American marketplace is a living testament to that fact.

There are very few socialistic countries in the world, and of those, Sweden is not one of them. The Swedes have a capitalistic economy that is more socialistic than ours. And overall, their lifestyle is more enviable. Poverty is not nearly pervasive and people do not have to worry about paying their MD bills.
