Oh, and where did you find the tolerant open democracy that wants to replace Israel? Are angels from heaven going to take over the terrorists of Hamas? Are the wahabbis really going to be "gone", just because you breezily proclaim them so? It's all a game of make-pretend to you, isn't it?
Like most utopians you are prepared to ignore all the parameters of reality while keeping your eyes on imagined perfection. This permits you to save all your condemnation for decent democracies, because you only approve of your imagined perfection; you need not notice the actual results that would follow from your policies.
Thinking like this sacrificed the actual lives of millions in the 20th century on the altar of some imagined Perfect Future. Socialism, Fascism, Communism and now Islamism, what they all have in common is their Utopian nature. No mere grubby imperfect existing democracy can stand up against Perfection!
And for each of these movements, there were those whom Lenin acutely called "useful fools" in the West, arguing for them. These useful fools were accessories after the fact, denying and excusing the mass murder of the Utopians, preventing counter-action. Aren't you proud, to be in such a tradition? |
